A working record kept beside the kiln. Updated when there is something worth writing down, which is not every week.

Why this page exists

Every load teaches something, and we forgot most of it for the first six years. This is the fix: a plain page, updated after the kiln is unpacked, so the next person does not repeat last month's mistake.

It is not a shop and there is nothing to buy here. The pots go out through the studio door on a Thursday.

Most recent load

Cone 6 oxidation, 11 hours up, door cracked at 90 °C. Forty-one pieces in, thirty-eight out. Two mugs lost a handle at the join — both pulled on a Friday, both attached the same evening. Attach the next morning.

Standing reminders

  1. Sieve the glaze before every dipping session, not every third one.
  2. Wax the foot rings while the bisque is still warm; it goes on thinner.
  3. Do not stack the top shelf above the element line, whatever the shelf plan says.
  4. Write the load number on the pot's foot in underglaze pencil. It costs nothing.
