Willow Lane
A working record kept beside the kiln. Updated when there is something worth writing down, which is not every week.
Bisque to 1000 °C on a slow ramp, then a glaze firing to cone 6. Nothing is rushed and the door is never opened early, no matter how much somebody wants to see.
| Load 214 | 41 in, 38 out. Two handle failures, one glaze crawl on a test tile. |
|---|---|
| Load 213 | 36 in, 36 out. First load with the new cordierite shelves; packing was noticeably quicker. |
| Load 212 | 44 in, 31 out. The bad one. Glaze had settled hard over the winter and went on far too thin. |
| Load 211 | 39 in, 39 out. Nothing to report, which is the goal. |
| Load 210 | 33 in, 32 out. One bowl cracked on cooling; it was the thickest thing in the load. |
Load 212 cost us most of a month. The lesson was not about the glaze — it was that the sieve lived across the room, so nobody used it. It now hangs on the bucket.
